Wegovy price in the UAE
A Wegovy (semaglutide) pen costs AED 743.50 at 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg in the UAE, AED 1,145.50 at 1 mg, AED 1,440 at 1.7 mg and AED 1,712 at 2.4 mg, on Abu Dhabi's official drug list from 2 October 2026. Each pen holds 4 weekly doses. The daily Wegovy pill costs AED 779 to AED 1,610 a month.

What does each Wegovy pen cost?
Wegovy pens cost more as the dose rises, from AED 743.50 for the first two strengths to AED 1,712 for 2.4 mg.3

Each pen holds 4 weekly doses and lasts 6 weeks once opened, below 30 °C or in a fridge. Daman's guideline allows 1.7 mg as the long-term dose if 2.4 mg isn't tolerated.9 The higher 7.2 mg dose is not sold here; see Is Wegovy 7.2 mg available in the UAE?
How much is a year of Wegovy?
A first year of 13 pens comes to about AED 19,481: AED 4,072.50 for the 4 starting pens, then AED 15,408 for 9 pens at 2.4 mg, by our arithmetic.3
After the first year, 13 pens at 2.4 mg come to AED 22,256. Doctor visits and tests are extra. Abu Dhabi's obesity standard says to continue beyond 6 months only if you've lost at least 5% of your starting weight.5
What about the pill, and insurance?
The Wegovy pill costs AED 779 for 30 tablets at 1.5 or 4 mg, AED 1,199 at 9 mg and AED 1,610 at 25 mg.3
The pill is taken every day and the pen once a week; both contain semaglutide.6 The Dubai Health Authority lists the Wegovy pen as registered for obesity treatment in the UAE.7 Dubai's basic Essential Benefits Plan excludes weight-loss medicines,8 and Daman covers them only for members of Abu Dhabi's Thiqa obesity programme.9 See How much is the Wegovy pill in the UAE? and Guide 6.
- Stomach effects are very common. In the 68-week Wegovy weight trials, 44 in 100 people on semaglutide 2.4 mg felt sick (nausea), against 16 in 100 on a dummy injection.4
- Gallstones are common (1 in 10 to 1 in 100) and a swollen pancreas (acute pancreatitis) is uncommon (1 in 100 to 1 in 1,000) on the EU Wegovy label.4
- Not for everyone. Abu Dhabi's Thiqa policy leaves out people with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2, anyone who has had pancreatitis, and pregnant or breastfeeding women.10
