Is the Wegovy pill or orforglipron available in Australia?

Both daily GLP-1 tablets for weight are approved in the US and the UK. In Australia, neither is on the register. Here is where each one stands with the TGA.

The short answer

Not yet. Neither tablet is on the ARTG, the register of medicines approved in Australia. The TGA has been evaluating orforglipron, Lilly’s daily tablet, since January 2026. We found no Wegovy pill application on the TGA’s public list. The only semaglutide tablet registered here is Rybelsus, for type 2 diabetes.

Key takeaways

  • No Wegovy tablet is on the ARTG; on 12 October 2026 all 15 Wegovy entries were injections.1
  • The TGA lists orforglipron as a new medicine under evaluation, from Eli Lilly, accepted in January 2026; it is not yet on the ARTG.2,3
  • The US approved the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide 25 mg) in December 2025 and orforglipron, as Foundayo, on 1 April 2026.4,5
  • In the OASIS 4 trial in the UK label, people on the Wegovy pill lost 13.6% of their body weight, against 2.2% on dummy tablets; 46.6 in 100 had nausea, against 18.6 in 100.6
  • Rybelsus, a semaglutide tablet for type 2 diabetes, has been on the ARTG since February 2022 and is not approved for weight loss.7
Before you go further
  • These tablets are prescription-only medicines overseas, and neither is approved in Australia. Nothing here is a recommendation.8,9
  • Overseas approvals and trial results are labelled as overseas. Australian rules may differ when the TGA decides.

Is the Wegovy pill approved in Australia?

No. The ARTG had 15 Wegovy entries on 12 October 2026, and every one was an injection, a pen or a syringe.1

The ARTG (Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods) lists medicines that can be supplied here. The newest Wegovy entries, added in March 2026, are pre-filled syringes. They are not tablets.1

We searched the TGA’s list of prescription medicines under evaluation for semaglutide. The only result was an Ozempic application for a new use, accepted in September 2025.2 We found no Wegovy pill entry.

That list has a limit. It covers new medicines, new combinations and new uses.2 A new form of a medicine already on the register may not appear there. So “not on the list” doesn’t prove no application exists.

Where is orforglipron up to in Australia?

Under TGA evaluation. The TGA lists orforglipron calcium from Eli Lilly as a new medicine application, accepted in January 2026.2

Orforglipron is a daily GLP-1 tablet. It is a small-molecule medicine, and it can be taken without food or water rules.5,9 It isn’t on the ARTG yet.3

The TGA warns that being under evaluation “does not guarantee registration or Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) entry”.2 We found no official date for a decision.

Overseas, the US approved it as Foundayo on 1 April 2026.5 The UK approved it on 10 August 2026, for weight and type 2 diabetes.9

What did the trials show, and what are the side effects?

Weight fell 13.6% on the Wegovy pill over 64 weeks, against 2.2% on dummy tablets, and 12.4% on top-dose orforglipron over 72 weeks, against 0.9%.6,10

Wegovy pill. OASIS 4 tested oral semaglutide 25 mg in 307 adults for 64 weeks. Weight fell 13.6% of body weight on the tablet, against 2.2% on dummy tablets, according to the UK label.6 For a 100 kg (220 lb) person, 13.6% is about 14 kg (30 lb).

Orforglipron. In ATTAIN-1, weight fell 7.8%, 9.3% and 12.4% on the 6, 12 and 36 mg doses at 72 weeks. These figures assume people kept taking the tablets, which makes them look larger than a count of everyone.5 It fell 0.9% on placebo.10

These are separate trials in different people. They can’t be ranked against each other or against the injections. The side effects sit beside them.

RisksThe risks, in brief
  • Wegovy tablets, stomach effects. In the 64-week UK label trial, 46.6 in 100 people had nausea, against 18.6 in 100 on dummy tablets; 30.9 in 100 vomited, against 5.9.6
  • Orforglipron, stomach effects. In the weight trials in its UK label, stomach and bowel problems affected 60 to 69 in 100 people, against 36 in 100 on placebo. Between 3.7 and 6.8 in 100 stopped because of them, against 0.6 in 100 on placebo.10
  • Serious events. In the ATTAIN-1 orforglipron trial, serious adverse events were reported by 3.8% to 5.5% of people, depending on the dose.5
  • Same class warnings. The UK Wegovy tablet label says to get medical help for severe belly pain that won’t go away, and warns that fluid loss can harm the kidneys in rare cases.6

Isn’t there already a semaglutide tablet in Australia?

Yes: Rybelsus, registered in February 2022 in 3, 7 and 14 mg strengths. It is a type 2 diabetes medicine, not a weight-loss tablet.7

Rybelsus and the Wegovy pill contain the same medicine, semaglutide. The Wegovy pill’s weight dose is 25 mg a day, far above Rybelsus’s top 14 mg strength.6,7

Rybelsus is not on the PBS list of GLP-1 medicines for type 2 diabetes. That list has only Ozempic and Trulicity.13 Our post on Ozempic and the PBS explains the diabetes rules.

What should you know while you wait?

Only approved medicines are safe to rely on. Tablets or drops sold online as GLP-1 have been found to contain no GLP-1 at all.14

Any GLP-1 tablet for weight offered in Australia before TGA approval would be an unapproved medicine. The TGA tested imported “GLP-1” oral products in 2026 and found no GLP-1 in them.14 See what the TGA found.

After any approval, a PBS subsidy is a separate step, and none exists for weight now.2,15 The approved options today are covered in our guide to your options.

Questions people ask

When will the Wegovy pill be available in Australia?

We don’t know. It isn’t on the ARTG, and we found no Wegovy pill entry on the TGA’s under-evaluation list on 12 October 2026.1,2

Has the TGA approved orforglipron?

Not yet. The TGA lists it as a new medicine under evaluation since January 2026.2,3

Is Foundayo the same as orforglipron?

Yes. Foundayo is the brand name under which the US approved orforglipron in April 2026.5

Can I take Rybelsus for weight loss?

Rybelsus is registered in Australia for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss. Its top strength is 14 mg; the Wegovy pill dose is 25 mg.6,7

Is there a Mounjaro tablet?

No. Mounjaro is a weekly injection. Orforglipron is a different Lilly medicine.5,16

How we researched this

We searched the ARTG and the TGA’s under-evaluation list on 12 October 2026. Overseas approvals come from trade-press reports of the two US approvals (Pharmaceutical Commerce, Healio) and the UK regulator’s press releases. We don’t link makers’ promotional pages. Side-effect rates come from the UK labels, named as UK.

Weight for a 100 kg person is our arithmetic. We give no overseas prices: Australian rules treat prescription-medicine prices as advertising.

Before you move on

  • Neither tablet is approved in Australia yet.
  • Orforglipron is under TGA evaluation.
  • Rybelsus is for type 2 diabetes, not weight.
  • Approval and a PBS subsidy are separate steps.
  • Avoid tablets or drops sold online as “GLP-1”.
