How this works
A label (prescribing information) is the official document that says how a medicine is used. In India it's approved by CDSCO, the national drug regulator, and comes as the pack insert. India's pack inserts for these medicines aren't published online, so we can't quote them.
Which label we use. CDSCO expert-committee minutes from 20 Aug 2025 and 8 Sep 2026 approve updates to India's Wegovy, Poviztra, Ozempic and Rybelsus inserts "based on EMA approval", using the EU label's section numbers.15,16 So for Wegovy, Poviztra and Ozempic we follow the EU label (the summary of product characteristics, SmPC). For Rybelsus, the current EU label covers a newer tablet that isn't sold in India, so we use the US label for the 3, 7 and 14 mg tablets; both labels give the same missed-dose rule. For Mounjaro, Yurpeak, Trulicity, Victoza and Lirafit we found no record of which format India's insert follows, so we show the EU and US labels side by side. Where the two labels differ, the tool says so and asks you to check the leaflet in your pack.
Section 4.2 of each EU label and section 2 of each US label set out the starting dose, how and when the dose goes up, and what to do about a missed dose. This tool turns them into dates.
Only medicines and strengths sold in India are shown, from our cost calculator's price list.8 Where a label has a higher strength that isn't sold in India (Ozempic 2 mg, Wegovy 7.2 mg, Trulicity 3 and 4.5 mg), the schedule stops at the highest Indian strength and says so.
Most GLP‑1 medicines start low and go up in steps, because side effects such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea are more common while the dose is rising. Each step lasts at least a set time: 4 weeks for the weekly injections, 30 days for Rybelsus, 1 week for Victoza and Lirafit.9,5,14
Some steps are fixed in the label. Others happen only if your doctor decides you need them, for example more blood-sugar control on Ozempic or Mounjaro. The planner marks those with "only if your doctor decides", and shows the earliest date the label would allow them.
Poviztra is Novo Nordisk's second brand of the same semaglutide as Wegovy, and Yurpeak is the same tirzepatide as Mounjaro, made by Eli Lilly, so they follow the same labels. Lirafit is a liraglutide biosimilar, so we use the Victoza labels for it; its own leaflet is the one to follow.
What each label says about a missed dose
Quoted from the current EU and US labels, checked 14 Oct 2026. The rules are not the same for every medicine, and for some medicines the EU and US labels differ.
- Mounjaro and Yurpeak“If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible within 4 days after the missed dose. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and administer the next dose on the regularly scheduled day. In each case, patients can then resume their regular once weekly dosing schedule.”EU Mounjaro label (SmPC), section 4.212“If a dose is missed, instruct patients to administer ZEPBOUND as soon as possible within 4 days (96 hours) after the missed dose. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and administer the next dose on the regularly scheduled day. In each case, patients can then resume their regular once weekly dosing schedule.”US Zepbound label, section 2.32“If a dose is missed, instruct patients to administer MOUNJARO as soon as possible within 4 days (96 hours) after the missed dose. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and administer the next dose on the regularly scheduled day. In each case, patients can then resume their regular once weekly dosing schedule.”US Mounjaro label, section 2.13The EU and US labels agree.
- Ozempic“If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible and within 5 days after the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, the missed dose should be skipped, and the next dose should be administered on the regularly scheduled day. In each case, patients can then resume their regular once weekly dosing schedule.”EU Ozempic label (SmPC), section 4.210“If a dose is missed, administer OZEMPIC as soon as possible within 5 days after the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, skip the missed dose and administer the next dose on the regularly scheduled day. In each case, patients can then resume their regular once-weekly dosing schedule.”US Ozempic label, section 2.14The labels differ. Changing your injection day: the EU label asks for at least 3 days (more than 72 hours) between two doses; the US label says at least 2 days (more than 48 hours).
- Rybelsus“If a dose is missed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose the following day.”US Rybelsus label, section 2.15“If a dose is missed, the missed dose should be skipped and the next dose should be taken the following day.”EU Rybelsus label (SmPC), section 4.211The EU and US labels agree.
- Trulicity“If a dose is missed, instruct patients to administer the dose as soon as possible if there are at least 3 days (72 hours) until the next scheduled dose. If less than 3 days remain before the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and administer the next dose on the regularly scheduled day. In each case, patients can then resume their regular once weekly dosing schedule.”US Trulicity label, section 2.36“If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible if there are at least 3 days (72 hours) until the next scheduled dose. If less than 3 days (72 hours) remain before the next scheduled dose, the missed dose should be skipped and the next dose should be administered on the regularly scheduled day. In each case, patients can then resume their regular once weekly dosing schedule.”EU Trulicity label (SmPC), section 4.213The EU and US labels agree.
- Victoza and Lirafit“If you forget a dose, use Victoza as soon as you remember. However, if it is more than 12 hours since you should have used Victoza, skip the missed dose. Then take your next dose as usual the following day. Do not take an extra dose or increase the dose on the following day to make up for the missed dose.”EU Victoza package leaflet, section 314“Instruct patients who miss a dose of VICTOZA to resume the once daily dosage regimen as prescribed with the next scheduled dose. Do not administer an extra dose or increase the dose to make up for the missed dose. If more than 3 days have elapsed since the last VICTOZA dose, reinitiate VICTOZA at 0.6 mg once daily to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions associated with reinitiation of treatment. Upon reinitiation, VICTOZA should be titrated at the discretion of the healthcare provider.”US Victoza label, section 2.27The labels differ. On a dose you've only just missed. The EU leaflet says to use it if it's 12 hours or less late; the US label says to wait for your next scheduled dose. Only the US label has a restart rule after more than 3 days.
- Wegovy and Poviztra“If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible and within 5 days after the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, the missed dose should be skipped, and the next dose should be administered on the regularly scheduled day. In each case, patients can then resume their regular once weekly dosing schedule. If more doses are missed, reducing the starting dose for re-initiation should be considered.”EU Wegovy label (SmPC), section 4.29“If you forgot to inject a dose and: it is 5 days or less since you should have used Wegovy, use it as soon as you remember. Then inject your next dose as usual on your scheduled day. It is more than 5 days since you should have used Wegovy, skip the missed dose. Then inject your next dose as usual on your next scheduled day. Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.”EU Wegovy package leaflet, section 39“If one dose of WEGOVY injection is missed and the next scheduled dose is: More than 2 days away, administer WEGOVY injection as soon as possible. Less than 2 days away, do not administer the WEGOVY injection dose. Resume dosing on the regularly scheduled day of the week. If 2 or more consecutive doses of WEGOVY injection are missed, reinitiate dosage escalation at a lower dosage to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions.”US Wegovy label, section 2.41The labels differ. The US Wegovy label keys the rule to your next dose instead: take the missed dose if the next one is more than 2 days away, skip it if less. That's the same 5-day cut-off. It also says to restart the dose steps at a lower dose after 2 or more missed doses in a row.
What this can't tell you
- The right dose for you, or when you should move up. Your doctor decides that, and may go slower than the label or keep you on a dose.
- What the leaflet in your own pack says. India's pack inserts may be worded differently from the EU and US labels. If yours differs, follow it and ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Generic semaglutide. Many Indian companies have sold their own semaglutide brands since March 2026, with their own leaflets and strengths, so they aren't in this tool. Follow your brand's leaflet.
- What to do if you've switched medicines, or take other medicines that change the dose.
- Anything for children and teens. The schedules shown are the adult ones.
- Whether a symptom is serious. If you have severe stomach pain that won't go away, with or without vomiting, get medical help. In an emergency in India, call 112.
Questions people ask
I missed my Wegovy or Poviztra dose. What does the label say?
The EU Wegovy label, which India's insert follows, says to take the missed dose as soon as possible within 5 days after it was due. If more than 5 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on your usual day. If you miss more doses, it says a lower starting dose should be considered when restarting, so contact your doctor before you restart. The US label words the rule differently but gives the same 5-day cut-off.9,1
I missed my Mounjaro or Yurpeak dose. How long do I have?
The EU and US Mounjaro labels both say to take the missed dose as soon as possible within 4 days after it was due (the US label adds: 96 hours). If more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on your usual day, then carry on once a week.12,3
I missed my Ozempic dose. How long do I have?
The EU and US Ozempic labels both say to take it as soon as possible within 5 days after the missed dose. If more than 5 days have passed, skip it and take the next dose on your usual day.10,4
I missed my Trulicity dose. What does the label say?
The EU and US Trulicity labels both say to take it as soon as possible if your next scheduled dose is at least 3 days (72 hours) away. If it's less than 3 days away, skip the missed dose and take the next one on your usual day.13,6
Do I have to move up a dose on the dates shown?
No. The dates are the label's schedule: the earliest each step is allowed. Your doctor may go slower, keep you on a dose, or choose a lower maintenance dose, and some steps happen only if your doctor decides. Never change your dose without talking to them.
Which label does this use?
India's pack inserts for these medicines are approved by CDSCO but aren't published online, so we can't quote them. CDSCO expert-committee records show the Novo Nordisk inserts (Wegovy, Poviztra, Ozempic, Rybelsus) follow the EU label, so the EU label leads for Wegovy, Poviztra and Ozempic. The current EU Rybelsus label covers a newer tablet that isn't sold in India, so Rybelsus uses the US label, which has the same missed-dose rule. For the others we found no such record, so we show the EU and US labels side by side. Where they differ, the tool says so. Check the leaflet in your pack, and if it says something different, follow it and ask your doctor.15,16
