How long can Zepbound stay out of the fridge?
A Zepbound (tirzepatide) single-dose pen or vial can stay out of the fridge for up to 21 days in total at up to 86°F (30°C), says the US label; then throw it away. The KwikPen and multi-dose vial can be kept at room temperature for 30 days. Never use Zepbound that has been frozen.
- GLP‑1 medicines are prescription-only in the US.
- Every figure below is from the US prescribing information or Instructions for Use for each product, named each time.
- Ask a pharmacist about a pen or vial that got too hot or froze.
How long can a single-dose Zepbound pen or vial be out of the fridge?
Up to 21 days in total, at no more than 86°F (30°C), and then it must be thrown away, says the US label.1
The label’s words: “If needed, each single-dose pen or single-dose vial can be stored unrefrigerated at temperatures not to exceed 30°C (86°F) for up to a total of 21 days.”1 The label counts a total of 21 days. It doesn’t say whether a pen or vial can go back in the fridge after time out, so ask a pharmacist.
Otherwise keep it in the fridge at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C), in its carton to protect it from light.1 Throw away an opened single-dose vial after use, even if medicine is left.1
What about the KwikPen and the multi-dose vial?
They last 30 days at room temperature, up to 86°F (30°C), whether opened or not.1
Unopened in the fridge, they keep until the expiry date. Once opened, store them in the fridge or at room temperature, and throw them away after 30 days at room temperature, 30 days after first use, or after 4 weekly doses, “even if there is medicine left in it.”1
Never share a KwikPen with anyone, even with a new needle.1
What if Zepbound froze or got too hot?
Don’t use it: the label says “Do not freeze ZEPBOUND. Do not use ZEPBOUND if frozen.”1
The label sets 86°F (30°C) as the upper limit for every format. For flights see Can I fly with my GLP-1 pen?, and for hot days see our post GLP-1 pens in summer heat, on trips and at TSA.
