How much do Mounjaro, Wegovy and Ozempic cost in the UAE?

Every pen and pill at its fixed national price in dirhams, why Mounjaro costs the same at every dose, and what a year adds up to.

Written for the United Arab Emirates. Reading from India? India version

The short answer

Prices are fixed nationally, so every pharmacy charges the same. A Mounjaro KwikPen costs AED 1,734 at every strength and holds 4 weekly doses. Wegovy pens cost AED 743.50 to AED 1,712, rising with the dose. Most people pay themselves, because insurance rarely covers weight loss.

Key takeaways

  • A Mounjaro KwikPen costs AED 1,734 at every strength from 2.5 mg to 15 mg, and each pen holds 4 weekly doses.1
  • Wegovy pens cost more as the dose rises, from AED 743.50 at 0.25 mg to AED 1,712 at 2.4 mg for 4 weekly doses.1
  • The Wegovy pill costs AED 779 to AED 1,610 for 30 tablets, depending on the dose, and Foundayo costs AED 773 to AED 1,599.1,2
  • At AED 1,734 a pen, a year of Mounjaro at any dose is about 13 pens, or roughly AED 22,500.1
  • Dubai’s basic insurance plan excludes weight-loss medicines, and Daman pays for obesity GLP‑1s only inside Abu Dhabi’s Thiqa programme.3,4

Why is the price the same at every pharmacy?

Because UAE medicine prices are fixed nationally when a medicine is registered. Distributors and pharmacies get fixed margins, so they can’t set their own price.5

Before you go further
  • GLP‑1 medicines are prescription-only in the UAE. A pharmacy needs a prescription from a UAE-licensed doctor.1,6
  • We list prices as facts, grouped by medicine. They are not sorted by price and not a recommendation. Your doctor chooses the medicine and the dose.
  • We don’t name or link to sellers, and we don’t show clinic or programme fees.
  • Every risk of these medicines is in Guide 5: Side effects and risks.

A Ministry of Health and Prevention committee sets the price at registration.5 Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health publishes an official drug list with a “price to public” for every registered pack. We checked every price on this page against the version in force from 2 October 2026.1

That is a big difference from many countries. A “cheaper Mounjaro” offer in the UAE is not a discount on the real medicine. Abu Dhabi’s health department has warned about fake Ozempic and Mounjaro sold through social media.7 Our post on fake pens in the UAE explains the alerts.

What do the weekly injections cost?

A Mounjaro pen is AED 1,734 at every strength. Wegovy and Ozempic pens cost more as the dose goes up. Each pen holds 4 weekly doses, about a month.1

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is on the official list as a KwikPen, one pen giving 4 weekly doses of the same strength, and as a pack of 4 single-dose pens. Both cost AED 1,734.1 Wegovy and Ozempic are both semaglutide made by Novo Nordisk. Wegovy is registered for weight, and Ozempic for type 2 diabetes.4,8

Medicine and strengthPer pen (4 weekly doses)
Mounjaro 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5 or 15 mgTirzepatide KwikPen. Weight and type 2 diabetes.AED 1,734
Wegovy 0.25 or 0.5 mgSemaglutide FlexTouch pen. Weight.AED 743.50
Wegovy 1 mgAED 1,145.50
Wegovy 1.7 mgAED 1,440
Wegovy 2.4 mgAED 1,712
Ozempic 0.5 mgSemaglutide pen. Type 2 diabetes.AED 743.50
Ozempic 1 mgAED 1,146
Ozempic 2 mgAED 1,550

Price to the public on Abu Dhabi’s official drug list, effective 2 Oct 2026, checked 12 Oct 2026. Grouped by medicine, not sorted by price.1

Gulf News reported the same pattern in February 2026: lower-dose Ozempic pens around Dh740, higher doses above Dh1,100, and Mounjaro pens “often above Dh1,700”.9

Why Mounjaro is flat-priced. The fixed price is the same for every KwikPen strength, so moving from 2.5 mg to 15 mg does not change what you pay.1 We found no official explanation of how that price was set. Wegovy works the other way: its starter pens cost less than half the 2.4 mg pen.1

Older medicines on the same list. Saxenda (liraglutide, for weight) is AED 1,198.50 for a pack of 5 pens. Victoza (liraglutide, for type 2 diabetes) is AED 493.50 for 2 pens. Trulicity (dulaglutide, for type 2 diabetes) is AED 861 for 4 pens at 0.75 or 1.5 mg, and AED 957 at 3 or 4.5 mg.1

What do the daily tablets cost?

A month of the Wegovy pill costs AED 779 to AED 1,610, and a month of Foundayo AED 773 to AED 1,599. The price rises with the dose.1

Medicine and strengthPer 30 tablets
Wegovy pill 1.5 or 4 mgOral semaglutide. Weight.AED 779
Wegovy pill 9 mgAED 1,199

Foundayo 5.5 mgAED 1,115
Foundayo 9 mgAED 1,412
Foundayo 14.5 or 17.2 mgAED 1,599

Price to the public on Abu Dhabi’s official drug list, effective 2 Oct 2026, checked 12 Oct 2026.1

Khaleej Times reported the same Wegovy pill prices in June 2026, from Dh779 for the 1.5 mg and 4 mg tablets to Dh1,610 for 25 mg.2 The UAE was the first country outside the US to launch the Wegovy pill, on 3 June 2026.10 Our posts on the Wegovy pill and Foundayo cover how each is taken.

What does a year of treatment cost?

A year of weekly injections takes about 13 pens, because a pen lasts 4 weeks and a year has 52. For Mounjaro at any dose, that is 13 × AED 1,734, or about AED 22,500.1

Here is the arithmetic for one example, a person on Mounjaro for a full year:

  • Pens: 52 weeks ÷ 4 doses a pen = 13 pens.
  • Cost: 13 × AED 1,734 = AED 22,542, whether the dose is 2.5 mg or 15 mg.1
  • A month: AED 22,542 ÷ 12 = about AED 1,880, a little more than one pen, because a calendar month holds about 4.3 weekly doses.

For medicines whose price rises with the dose, the first year costs less than a year at the top dose. How much less depends on how fast your doctor raises the dose. Daily tablets work out at about 12 packs of 30 a year.1 The cost calculator does these sums for any medicine and dose.

These are medicine costs only. They assume you stay on treatment all year; many people change dose or stop. Abu Dhabi’s obesity standard says to continue a GLP‑1 beyond 6 months only if you have lost at least 5% of your starting weight.11

Does insurance pay any of it?

Rarely for weight loss. Dubai’s basic plan excludes weight-loss medicines, and Abu Dhabi’s main insurer pays for obesity GLP‑1s only inside the Thiqa obesity programme.3,4

  • Dubai basic plan. The Essential Benefits Plan table of benefits excludes “pharmacological weight reduction regimens”. Medicines are capped at AED 2,500, including 30% co-insurance per prescription.3
  • Diabetes, with Daman. Daman covers GLP‑1s for type 2 diabetes only with heart disease or several heart risk factors, an HbA1c (average blood sugar over about 3 months) of 6.5% or more, and at least 6 months of other diabetes medicines first.4
  • Obesity, with Daman. Obesity GLP‑1s “are not covered for members who are not enrolled in the Thiqa Obesity Program”.4 Thiqa is Abu Dhabi’s government health cover for eligible UAE nationals.12

Gulf News summed it up in 2026: GLP‑1s “remain largely out-of-pocket expenses”.9 Our posts on insurance cover and the Thiqa programme go through the rules.

What else might you pay for?

The doctor’s visits, blood tests and any programme fees come on top of the medicine. Unlike medicine prices, these are not fixed, so we don’t list them.

Before prescribing, doctors check your weight, health conditions and medicines. Khaleej Times reported UAE doctors listing blood sugar, cholesterol, and liver, kidney and thyroid tests before starting the Foundayo pill.13 Abu Dhabi’s standard expects a team that can include a dietitian, an exercise specialist and a psychologist.11

Name the incentive. Many clinics and apps sell monthly weight programmes, often promoted online. The medicine inside costs the same fixed price everywhere, so the difference between offers is the service around it.1,14 Guide 7: Choosing a provider lists what to ask.

Paying privately does not change the rules. You still need a prescription, and medicines from social media sellers have been found to be fakes.7,15

Questions people ask

How much is Mounjaro in the UAE?

AED 1,734 per KwikPen, at every strength from 2.5 mg to 15 mg. Each pen holds 4 weekly doses, about a month.1

Why does every Mounjaro dose cost the same?

The fixed national price is the same for every KwikPen strength.1 We found no official explanation of how it was set.

Is Mounjaro cheaper at another pharmacy?

No. Prices are fixed nationally, with fixed pharmacy margins, and Abu Dhabi’s official drug list gives one public price for every Mounjaro KwikPen strength.1,5

How much is the Wegovy pill in the UAE?

AED 779 for 30 tablets of 1.5 mg or 4 mg, AED 1,199 for 9 mg and AED 1,610 for 25 mg.1,2

Does insurance pay for weight-loss injections in the UAE?

Rarely. Dubai’s basic plan excludes weight-loss medicines, and Daman covers obesity GLP‑1s only for members in Abu Dhabi’s Thiqa obesity programme.3,4

How we researched this

On 12 October 2026 we checked every price on this page against Abu Dhabi’s official drug list (Shafafiya Drugs.xlsx, effective 2 October 2026), which gives the price to the public for each registered pack. We read the Daman GLP‑1 guideline, the Thiqa policy and a Dubai basic-plan table of benefits, and compared our prices with news reports from 2026.

We left out all clinic and programme fees, because they are not fixed. We found no generic semaglutide approved in the UAE. Prices are reviewed by the authorities from time to time, so we re-check them every quarter.

Before you move on

  • Prices are fixed nationally; a “discount” on a branded pen is a warning sign.
  • A Mounjaro pen is AED 1,734 at every dose; Wegovy and Ozempic pens rise with the dose.
  • A year of weekly pens is about 13 pens.
  • Check your own policy: most UAE plans don’t pay for weight loss.
