Is the Wegovy pill available in Australia?
No. As of October 2026, no Wegovy (semaglutide) tablet for weight management is on Australia's register of medicines; the only semaglutide tablet registered is Rybelsus, for type 2 diabetes. The Wegovy pill was approved in the US in December 2025 and in the UK in June 2026.
Where is the Wegovy pill approved?
The US Food and Drug Administration approved the Wegovy pill, a once-daily 25 mg semaglutide tablet, on 22 December 2025.1
The US approval covers reducing excess body weight and keeping it off, and lowering the risk of major cardiovascular events.1 The UK medicines regulator, the MHRA, approved a semaglutide tablet for weight management on 11 June 2026.2 In Australia, a search of the register for semaglutide on 12 October 2026 showed injections plus Rybelsus 3, 7 and 14 mg tablets, and no Wegovy tablet.3 The injections are all Novo Nordisk brands; see Is there a generic semaglutide in Australia?
Is the TGA evaluating it?
We couldn't confirm that: the TGA's public list of medicines under evaluation, updated 21 September 2026, shows no Wegovy tablet application.4
That list covers new medicines, new combinations and new uses, so it may not show every kind of application.4 We can't predict an Australian launch date from it, and we haven't relied on news reports that give one.
Are any other GLP‑1 tablets coming?
Orforglipron, Eli Lilly's once-daily GLP‑1 tablet, is on the TGA's list as a new medicine accepted for evaluation in January 2026.4
Evaluation “does not guarantee registration or Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) entry”, the TGA notes.4 Rybelsus, registered in February 2022, is for type 2 diabetes, not weight.3,5 It isn't in the PBS tables for type 2 diabetes, and we couldn't confirm whether it is currently supplied.6 A tablet sold online in Australia as “Wegovy” would not be a registered product, and the TGA advises buying prescription medicines only from a local registered pharmacy.3,7 Tablets sold as “GLP‑1” supplements are another matter: see Do GLP‑1 patches or drops work?
