How much do Mounjaro and Wegovy cost in the UK over 6 or 12 months?

Pick a medicine, a dose plan and who pays. On the NHS we add up prescription charges where you live. Paying privately, we add up the medicine at its NHS list price, month by month, with a source for every price. The figures are rough estimates for planning, not quotes.

What this means

What this tells you

    What this doesn't mean

    • It isn't a quote, or a sign that a GLP-1 suits you. A prescriber decides whether a medicine fits, which one and at what dose.
    • It isn't what a private service will charge. The NHS list price is the price before VAT; services set their own prices and often include a consultation.
    • It isn't a sign you can get it on the NHS. NHS access depends on where you live and on NICE's rules; the GLP-1 check shows what they say about answers like yours.
    • It leaves out:
      • private consultation fees (we found no official or survey figure)
      • delivery or collection charges
      • other medicines and tests
      • what happens after you stop

    Next steps

    Before you go further
    • GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only. Online pharmacies must check your weight and height by video, in person or from your GP records before prescribing them.
    • They have real risks, including:
      • stomach upsets
      • pancreatitis (an inflamed pancreas)
      • gallbladder problems
      • dehydration
      Read the risks
    • The MHRA has found fake Mounjaro pens supplied through an online pharmacy, and warns against pens from social media or beauty salons.
    • Severe stomach pain that won't go away, with or without vomiting, can be pancreatitis. Call 999, or NHS 111 if you're not sure.

    Why we say this

Every number in your result, and where it comes from. We use official sources only: the NHSBSA Drug Tariff, NHSBSA prescribing data and NICE for list prices, the NHS bodies of each nation for prescription charges, and the UK labels for dose steps.

      How this works

On the NHS. Each 28-day supply is one prescription item, whatever the dose, so a pen of 4 weekly doses is one item. We assume you collect one every 28 days. In England each item costs £9.90, unless you get free prescriptions. A prescription prepayment certificate (PPC) covers every NHS prescription for a fixed price: £32.05 for 3 months or £114.50 for 12 months, and you choose the day it starts. Started on a collection day, a 3-month certificate covers 4 collections (days 1, 29, 57 and 85 all fall inside 3 months) and a 12-month one covers 14. We try every mix of certificates and single items in order and show the cheapest, with the simple ways next to it. A medical exemption certificate, which covers diabetes treated with medicine, makes prescriptions free in England, so a medicine approved only for type 2 diabetes shows no charge. Prescriptions are free in Scotland, in Wales for people registered with a Welsh GP, and in Northern Ireland.

Paying privately. We use the NHS list price for each dose, excluding VAT: the Drug Tariff price, or for Saxenda and the Wegovy 7.2 mg pen the basic NHS price in NHSBSA prescribing data. Each pack lasts a set number of days at its dose: a pen of 4 weekly doses lasts 28 days, a pack of 30 tablets 30 days, and a liraglutide pen of 18 mg lasts 6 days at 3 mg a day or 30 days at 0.6 mg. A day costs the pack price divided by those days. We count a year as 52 weeks, so a month is about 4.3 weeks or 30.3 days: 6 months is 26 weekly doses and 12 months is 52, which is 13 pens a year. The NHS itself pays a confidential discounted price for some medicines, which isn't published.

Dose steps. "Label's dose steps" moves up the ladder in the UK label. For Wegovy that is 4 weeks each at 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 1.7 mg, then 2.4 mg; for Mounjaro, 2.5 mg, then up 2.5 mg at a time after at least 4 weeks, to at most 15 mg; for Saxenda and liraglutide, up 0.6 mg a week to 3.0 mg. Prescribers often go slower, and some people stay lower.

My own plan. You set each step in whole weeks, starting from the label's steps; the last step runs to the end. A label step given in days that isn't whole weeks (Rybelsus: one month, 30 days) keeps its days until you change it. Weeks become months on the same rule, 52 weeks a year: 26 weeks is 6 months. Left as filled in, it gives the same total as the label's steps, month by month.

Rounding. Each month in the table is shown in whole pounds with the rounding carried forward, so the months add up exactly to the total.

Medicines. Every GLP-1 medicine sold in the UK with an official NHS list price: first those licensed for weight management, then those approved only for type 2 diabetes. Using a diabetes-only medicine for weight is off-label.

      What this can't tell you

It can't tell you what a private service will charge, or which medicine or dose is right for you. We found no official UK list price for Wegovy tablets or Foundayo (orforglipron), so they aren't listed. We found no official source or published survey for private consultation fees, so they're left out.

      Questions people ask

How much does Mounjaro cost on the NHS?

In England you pay the prescription charge: £9.90 an item, and each 28-day supply (one pen of 4 weekly doses) is one item, so about 13 items a year. Prepayment certificates cap it: £32.05 for 3 months or £114.50 for 12, covering all your NHS prescriptions. Collecting every 28 days, the cheapest mix for 12 months is three 3-month certificates and one single item, £106.05; for 6 months, one 3-month certificate and 3 single items, £61.75. Prescriptions are free in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and free in England with a medical exemption certificate, which covers diabetes treated with medicine.

What is the list price of Mounjaro in the UK?

From 1 September 2025, the NHS list price for a pen of 4 weekly doses is £133 at 2.5 mg, £180 at 5 mg, £255 at 7.5 and 10 mg, and £330 at 12.5 and 15 mg, excluding VAT. NICE published these prices, and the October 2026 Drug Tariff still has them. Private services set their own prices, usually higher, and these often include their consultation.

What is the list price of Wegovy in the UK?

The NHS list price for a pen of 4 doses is £73.25 at 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mg, £124.53 at 1.7 mg and £175.80 at 2.4 mg, excluding VAT: NICE published these in March 2023 and the October 2026 Drug Tariff still has them. The 7.2 mg dose comes as 4 single-dose pens at £330, the basic NHS price in NHSBSA prescribing data for July 2026. We found no official list price for Wegovy tablets.

Why does the monthly cost go up after the first months?

The label raises the dose in steps, at least 4 weeks apart, and higher doses have higher list prices. On the NHS in England the charge stays £9.90 an item whatever the dose.

Is this what I'll actually pay?

Treat it as a rough estimate, not a quote. It uses NHS list prices from the Drug Tariff and NHSBSA, NHS prescription charges from NHSBSA, and the label's dose steps. On the NHS, what you pay depends on where you live, how often you collect and whether you get free prescriptions. Paying privately, services set their own prices, usually above the list price and often with a consultation. Your prescriber, your pharmacy and how your dose changes can all move the real figure.

Why doesn't the calculator include private consultation fees?

We only use official or survey prices. We found no official source or published survey of private consultation fees for these medicines in the UK, so we leave them out instead of guessing, and we never show a seller's price.
