The short answer

Without insurance, Eli Lilly’s US self-pay price for Mounjaro (tirzepatide) single-dose pens is $499 a month at every dose from 2.5 mg to 15 mg, or about $6,487 for a year of 13 fills. The list price is $1,112.16 a month. With commercial insurance that covers it, Lilly’s savings card can bring the cost to as little as $25.

Before you go further
  • GLP‑1 medicines are prescription-only in the US. A licensed clinician has to decide they suit you before any price applies.
  • Prices here are list prices or the makers’ own published self-pay prices, each with its source and the date we checked it. We never quote a seller’s price, and we don’t name or rank pharmacies or telehealth companies.
  • Prices and offers change often. Check the date next to each one.
  • Nothing here promises any result, and nothing here is for sale.

Does the Mounjaro price change with the dose?

No: Eli Lilly’s self-pay price for Mounjaro single-dose pens is $499 a month at every dose, from 2.5 mg to 15 mg.1

A month is 4 single-dose pens, one a week. The government site TrumpRx.gov shows the same $499 price.2 Mounjaro starts at 2.5 mg and can go up by 2.5 mg after at least 4 weeks on each dose, up to 15 mg at most for adults and 10 mg for children.4 Because the price is flat, a higher dose doesn’t cost more.

Mounjaro is approved for type 2 diabetes. The same medicine for weight is sold as Zepbound, which has different prices: see How much is Zepbound without insurance? and Mounjaro vs Zepbound.4

What does a year of Mounjaro cost, and what is the list price?

A year is 52 weekly doses, or 13 four-week fills, so a year at $499 comes to $6,487 before any discount.

That is our arithmetic from Lilly’s price.1 The list price (wholesale acquisition cost) is Lilly’s price to wholesalers before any discounts or rebates. TrumpRx shows Mounjaro’s list price as $1,112.16 a month, or $14,458 for 13 fills.2

What if you have insurance or Medicare?

With commercial insurance that covers Mounjaro, Lilly’s savings card lets you pay as little as $25 for up to a 3-month fill.3

Savings are capped at $150 a month and $1,950 a year. If your commercial plan doesn’t cover Mounjaro, the card brings the price to $499 a month, the same as self-pay.3 The card excludes people on government plans such as Medicare and Medicaid.3

Medicare Part D plans can cover GLP‑1s for type 2 diabetes.5 The $50 Medicare GLP‑1 Bridge for weight doesn’t include Mounjaro.6 See getting a prescription in the US for how coverage works.

RisksThe risks, in brief
  • Stomach effects are common. In placebo-controlled trials, 12 to 18 in 100 adults on Mounjaro had nausea, against 4 in 100 on a placebo (dummy injection), on the US label.4
  • Low blood sugar. Taken with insulin or a sulfonylurea (a type of diabetes pill), Mounjaro raises the risk of low blood sugar.4
  • Pancreas and gallbladder. The US label warns of pancreatitis (an inflamed pancreas) and gallbladder problems.4
  • Thyroid warning. Don’t use Mounjaro if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), or if you have MEN 2.4
  • Birth-control pills can work less well for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose step; the label advises a backup method.4
