How much is the Wegovy pill?

The short answer

Without insurance, the Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) costs $149 a month for the 1.5 mg starting dose, $199 for 4 mg and $299 for the 9 mg and 25 mg doses, per Novo Nordisk’s April 2026 US self-pay price guide. A month is one bottle of 30 tablets. Its undiscounted price is $1,349 a month.

Before you go further
  • GLP‑1 medicines are prescription-only in the US. A licensed clinician has to decide they suit you before any price applies.
  • Prices here are list prices or the makers’ own published self-pay prices, each with its source and the date we checked it. We never quote a seller’s price, and we don’t name or rank pharmacies or telehealth companies.
  • Prices and offers change often. Check the date next to each one.
  • Nothing here promises any result, and nothing here is for sale.

What does each Wegovy pill dose cost?

Novo Nordisk’s self-pay price rises from $149 to $299 a month as the dose goes up, then stays at $299 on the 25 mg maintenance dose.1

25 mg$299

Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy price guide (April 2026), checked October 12, 2026.1

The US label starts at 1.5 mg once a day for 30 days, then raises the dose every 30 days to the 25 mg maintenance dose.2 Stepping up a month at a time, a first year of 12 bottles comes to $3,338 at these prices. That is our arithmetic. Novo also sells 3-, 6- and 12-month subscriptions for the 9 mg and 25 mg pill, at $289, $269 or $249 a month, only through some telehealth companies, which we don’t name.8

The FDA approved the pill on December 22, 2025, as the first GLP‑1 pill for weight management, according to Novo.7

Is the pill cheaper than the Wegovy pen?

At the top doses, yes: $299 a month for the 25 mg pill against $349 for any pen dose, on Novo’s self-pay prices.1

TrumpRx.gov showed the same undiscounted “original price” for both on October 12, 2026, $1,349 a month; it showed the pill at “$149/mo”, the starting dose.3 Novo says the 25 mg tablet’s list price falls to $675 on January 1, 2027.4

The pill has rules the pen doesn’t. Take it on an empty stomach in the morning with up to 4 ounces of water, then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other pills.2 In its main trial, the 25 mg pill lowered weight by 13.6% over 64 weeks, against 2.4% on a placebo (dummy pill), in 307 adults without diabetes. Stomach side effects were the most common; see the risks below.2

What if you have insurance or Medicare?

With commercial insurance that covers it, Novo’s savings offer brings a bottle down to as little as $25, with savings capped at $100 a month.1

Government beneficiaries are excluded from that offer.1,5 Medicare’s GLP‑1 Bridge covers Wegovy tablets for weight at $50 a month for people who meet its criteria.6 See Who qualifies for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge? and Guide 6.

RisksThe risks, in brief
  • Stomach effects are the most common side effects of Wegovy, the Medication Guide says: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation and stomach pain.2
  • Pancreas and gallbladder. The label warns of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) and gallbladder problems, including gallstones.2
  • Thyroid warning. Don’t take Wegovy with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (a rare thyroid cancer), or with MEN 2 (multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2, an inherited condition that causes gland tumors).2
  • Breastfeeding. Breastfeeding isn’t recommended while taking Wegovy tablets.2
