What should you do if you miss a dose of Ozempic or Mounjaro?
The US labels say to take a missed Ozempic (semaglutide) dose as soon as possible within 5 days. For Mounjaro (tirzepatide), the window is 4 days (96 hours). After that, both say to skip it and inject on the usual day. EU leaflets say not to use a double dose. We found no public Indian label.
- GLP‑1 medicines such as Ozempic and Mounjaro are prescription-only in India, not sold over the counter.9
- A government statement on 1 Apr 2026 said only endocrinologists, internal-medicine specialists and cardiologists can prescribe them.9 CDSCO expert-committee minutes attach a similar condition to some approvals (endocrinologist or internal-medicine specialist), but we found no rule covering every brand.10,11

What does the US Ozempic label say about a missed dose?
The US Ozempic label says a missed dose should be taken as soon as possible within 5 days, and skipped after that.
If more than 5 days have passed, the label says to skip it and inject on the regular day. Either way, the label says to carry on weekly.1 The EU leaflet adds "Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose."6
Wegovy is semaglutide too, sold for weight. Its US label words the rule differently. With the next dose more than 2 days (48 hours) away, it says to inject as soon as possible. If it is less than 2 days away, it says to skip it.3 The EU Wegovy label uses the 5-day rule instead.8 We found no public Indian leaflet for either brand, and we did not check generic semaglutide leaflets.
What does the US Mounjaro label say?
The US Mounjaro (tirzepatide) label gives a shorter window, 4 days (96 hours), to take a missed dose, then says to skip it.
After 4 days, the label says to inject the next dose on the regular day and carry on weekly.2 Zepbound, the US weight brand of tirzepatide, has the same 4-day rule.4 The EU Mounjaro leaflet also says not to use a double dose. It says to keep at least 3 days between doses.7
Moving the injection day has its own limit. The US Mounjaro label allows it if doses stay at least 3 days (72 hours) apart.2 The US Ozempic label requires at least 2 days (more than 48 hours).1 How the two medicines differ is in Mounjaro vs Ozempic.
What do the labels say if you miss 2 weeks or more?
Of the labels we read, only Wegovy's cover missing more than one dose. The US label says to restart the dose steps at a lower dose.3,8
It applies when 2 or more doses in a row are missed. The reason it gives is to lower the risk of stomach side effects.3 Its patient guide tells people to contact their healthcare provider about how to restart.3 The EU Wegovy label says that if more doses are missed, a lower restart dose "should be considered".8
We found no such line in the US Ozempic, Mounjaro or Zepbound labels.1,2,4 No label we read names a restart dose, so that choice sits with the prescribing doctor. What the stomach effects look like is in Mounjaro side effects.

What about Rybelsus, the daily tablet?
The US Rybelsus label has no catch-up window, and says to skip a missed tablet and take the next one the following day.
Its patient guide also says not to take more than 1 tablet a day.5 The same US label and rules cover Ozempic tablets.5 More on the starting tablet is in Rybelsus 3 mg. Injecting and daily life are in Guide 8.
