What is the MRP of Mounjaro in India?
A Mounjaro (tirzepatide) KwikPen in India has a printed MRP of ₹13,125 to ₹25,781, checked on 5 October 2026. The 2.5 mg pen costs least; 12.5 and 15 mg cost most. Each pen holds 4 weekly doses. A year on 5 mg throughout is about ₹2.13 lakh. Today's MRPs equal the launch MRPs less the GST cut of September 2025.
- Mounjaro, like other GLP‑1 medicines, is prescription-only in India, not sold over the counter.8
- A government statement on 1 Apr 2026 said only endocrinologists, internal-medicine specialists and cardiologists can prescribe them.8 CDSCO expert-committee minutes attach a similar condition to some approvals (endocrinologist or internal-medicine specialist), but we found no rule covering every brand.9
- These are printed MRPs (maximum retail price), the list price on the pack. We never quote a seller's discount price.
- To check that a pen is genuine, see Fake Ozempic and Mounjaro pens. The risks are in Guide 5: Side effects and risks.
- Nothing here promises any result, and nothing here is for sale.
What is the MRP of each Mounjaro strength?
Each Mounjaro KwikPen holds 4 weekly doses, and its printed MRP rises with the strength, from ₹13,125 to ₹25,781.
Two pharmacy listings agree on all 6 strengths, checked 5 October 2026.1 7.5 and 10 mg share a price, as do 12.5 and 15 mg.
| Strength | MRP per pen (4 doses) | Per weekly dose | 52 weeks (13 pens) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.5 mg | ₹13,125 | ₹3,281 | ₹1,70,625 |
| 5 mg | ₹16,406 | ₹4,102 | ₹2,13,278 |
| 7.5 mg | ₹20,625 | ₹5,156 | ₹2,68,125 |
| 10 mg | ₹20,625 | ₹5,156 | ₹2,68,125 |
| 12.5 mg | ₹25,781 | ₹6,445 | ₹3,35,153 |
| 15 mg | ₹25,781 | ₹6,445 | ₹3,35,153 |
Printed MRPs from two pharmacy listings, checked 5 Oct 2026.1 The last two columns are our arithmetic: pen ÷ 4, and pen × 13.
Mounjaro also comes as single-dose vials, listed at 2.5 mg (MRP ₹3,281) and 5 mg (₹4,102) only.2 Four vials cost the same as one pen of that strength.
What does a year of Mounjaro cost?
We count a year as 52 weekly doses, or 13 pens, so 12 months on 5 mg throughout costs about ₹2.13 lakh at today's MRP.
A month is about 4.3 weekly doses (52 ÷ 12), so by our arithmetic about ₹14,200 at 2.5 mg and ₹17,800 at 5 mg.1
Your doctor sets the dose. The US label starts at 2.5 mg. It allows a 2.5 mg rise after at least 4 weeks, up to 15 mg.7 The dose steps are in Mounjaro doses explained. Here are two worked examples at today's MRPs.
- One pen at 2.5 mg, then 12 pens at 5 mg, costs ₹2,09,997 (about ₹2.1 lakh).1
- One pen at each step up to 12.5 mg, then 8 pens at 15 mg, costs ₹3,02,810 (about ₹3 lakh).1
That is the medicine alone. An endocrinologist's in-clinic fee had a median of ₹1,100 on Practo in 6 cities.10

Why is Mounjaro's MRP lower than its launch price?
GST on most medicines fell from 12% to 5% on 22 September 2025, and today's printed MRPs equal the launch MRPs less that tax cut.
Lilly launched the KwikPen in August 2025 at ₹14,000 for a 2.5 mg pen (4 weekly doses), which Business Standard called a month's supply. The 12.5 and 15 mg pens were ₹27,500.3 The vials launched in March 2025 at ₹3,500 (2.5 mg) and ₹4,375 (5 mg).4 After the GST cut,5 the price regulator, NPPA, told makers to issue revised MRPs.6
Swap 12% tax for 5% on ₹14,000 (× 105/112) and you get ₹13,125, today's MRP.1,3 That is our arithmetic; we found no Lilly statement of the new figures. We also found no report of a Mounjaro price cut since.
Is there a cheaper generic Mounjaro in India?
No. We found no generic tirzepatide on sale in India, and Lilly's main tirzepatide patent there is expected to last until 2036.
The Medicines Patent Pool says the main patent is granted in India. It expects formulation patents to run to 2039 across lower- and middle-income countries.11 Yurpeak, sold by Cipla, is not a generic. Lilly makes it, and Cipla said it would cost the same as Mounjaro.12
The cheaper generics that launched in March 2026 are semaglutide, a different medicine.13 Their prices are in Guide 6.
- Nausea is very common (more than 1 in 10) on the EU Mounjaro label.14 In the US label's diabetes trials, 12% to 18% felt sick on Mounjaro, vs 4% on a dummy injection.7
- A swollen pancreas (pancreatitis) and gallstones are uncommon (1 in 100 to 1 in 1,000) on the EU Mounjaro label, and both are label warnings.7,14
- Losing fluid from vomiting or diarrhoea can strain the kidneys. Both labels warn about this.7,14 See GLP-1s and kidneys.
- Low blood sugar (hypos) is more likely with insulin or a sulfonylurea.7
- Thyroid C-cell tumour warning. The US label rules it out with a personal or family history of a rare thyroid cancer (MTC) or MEN 2.7
- Not recommended in pregnancy on the EU label. The US label says it can make the contraceptive pill less reliable after starting and after each dose rise.7,14 See GLP-1s, pregnancy and contraception.
