Our table lists 13 companies with semaglutide brands in India, sold as pens, vials or tablets. Generic pens launched at ₹1,800–4,200 for 4 starting doses, and vials from ₹1,290 a month. Poviztra is not a generic; Emcure sells Novo Nordisk's own semaglutide under that name. Yurpeak is tirzepatide, a different medicine.

Who makes semaglutide in India, and in what forms?
Our table lists 13 companies in alphabetical order. Three sell semaglutide made by Novo Nordisk; ten sell their own version or a partner's.2,12,13
Alphabetical order is not a ranking. MRP means maximum retail price, the price printed on the pack. Each row gives form, strengths and MRP as the maker or a named report gave it. Where a maker gave a weekly price, we show it as weekly.
Some companies sell another company's product. Eris sells semaglutide made by Natco, and Lupin co-markets Zydus's version under its own brand names.14,15

Alphabetical by company, not ranked. MRPs come from makers or named, dated news reports. "Pharmacy-listed" means the printed MRP on at least 2 pharmacy listings that agree, never a discounted price. Checked 5 Oct 2026; prices may have changed since launch.
Not in the table. Mankind Pharma said before the expiry that it would launch a brand called Samakind.14 We found no maker statement or report with its form or price, so we left it out.
A pre-launch list in March named 55 brands.33 A name on a list like that doesn't prove the product is on sale. By July, Medical Dialogues counted more than 50 CDSCO-approved generic products on the market.8
Which semaglutide brands are not generics, such as Poviztra?
Poviztra and Extensior are second brands of Novo Nordisk's own semaglutide. Indian partners sell them, and Novo Nordisk makes them.2,12
Poviztra. Emcure "exclusively distributes and commercializes" it in India as a second brand of Novo Nordisk's semaglutide.2 It launched in December 2025 at ₹8,790 a month for the starting dose.20 From 3 April 2026 it costs ₹3,999 (0.25 mg) to ₹8,999 (2.4 mg) a month.2
Emcure's chief executive called it "the innovator molecule, not a biosimilar or generic".20 For the brand Novo sells itself, see Wegovy vs Ozempic.
Searching "Poviztra" often brings up Brazilian pages. Novo Nordisk uses the same name in Brazil, where the leaflet is headed as the Wegovy leaflet.34 Approvals and packs in Brazil can differ from India's.
Extensior. Abbott sells it as "a second brand of Ozempic", for type 2 diabetes. It is "developed and manufactured by Novo Nordisk".12
Two ways to make the same medicine. CDSCO describes Novo's Wegovy pens as semaglutide of "r-DNA origin".35 The expert-committee minutes for the generics we checked say "synthetic origin".17,18 We found no public CDSCO comparison of the two.
Is Yurpeak injection a semaglutide generic?
No. Yurpeak is tirzepatide, the medicine in Mounjaro. Eli Lilly makes it, and Cipla sells it as Lilly's second tirzepatide brand in India.7
Cipla launched Yurpeak on 10 December 2025, for type 2 diabetes and weight management. It comes as a KwikPen in 6 strengths, from 2.5 mg to 15 mg.7
Cipla said "the price will be the same as Mounjaro".7 Pharmacy listings print an MRP of ₹13,125 for the 2.5 mg pen and ₹25,781 for 15 mg.36 Our short answers explain what tirzepatide is and whether Mounjaro is available in India.
What do semaglutide pens, vials and tablets cost?
Generic pens launched at ₹1,800–4,200 for 4 starting doses. Vials are priced per vial, from ₹1,290 a month.3,4,5
- Pens, starting doses: ₹1,800–4,200 for 4 doses at launch.3,4
- Pens, top doses, where published: ₹4,200–8,000 for 4 doses. One maker prices its top dose by the week, at ₹2,000 (₹8,000 for 4 doses).1,3
- Vials: from ₹1,290 a month, and ₹1,750 for an 8 mg vial. One maker gives ₹325–440 a week.5,6,21
- Novo-made pens: Ozempic ₹5,660–9,100, Wegovy ₹5,660–16,400 and Poviztra ₹3,999–8,999 a month.2,25
We keep vials apart from pens because makers price them per vial, by month or week, not per dose. With a vial, you draw each dose with a syringe; Glenmark supplies dose-specific syringes.21 Guide 6 explains why measuring doses needs care.
Tablets. Torrent sells generic semaglutide tablets in 3, 7 and 14 mg.29 We found no published price. Novo's tablet is Rybelsus.
A worked example. We count a year as 52 weekly doses, so a month is about 4.3 doses. A pen of 4 doses at ₹4,200 needs 13 pens a year: 13 × ₹4,200 = ₹54,600.3
Most of these are launch prices from March 2026. In July, Medical Dialogues put generic therapy at "around Rs 1,290 to Rs 8,000" a month.8
Medicine MRP, doctor visits and tests, by dose step. No sign-up.
What does a CDSCO approval reference tell you?
It shows what each brand was approved for. Every maker needs its own approval, and approved uses differ from brand to brand.17,18
CDSCO's expert committee (the Subject Expert Committee) reviews each maker's trial data. It then recommends whether to let the company "manufacture and market" the medicine.18
- 11 Sep 2025: the committee accepted Dr Reddy's Phase III report. It recommended approval for type 2 diabetes, at 2, 4 and 8 mg.18
- 9 Dec 2025: it recommended Sun Pharma's and Alkem's versions for weight management. Zydus's was recommended for weight and type 2 diabetes.17
- Each of those weight approvals came with a condition: a post-marketing safety study in India.17
So a brand approved only for type 2 diabetes, such as Obeda or Sematrinity, does not carry a weight-management approval.1,3 Some companies say their approval followed a Phase 3 trial in India, including Alkem, Sun Pharma and Glenmark.4,21,28
One minutes file has no date in its name and may be reused. So we also cite archived copies. Our short answer Is semaglutide the same as Ozempic? explains medicine versus brand.
Which semaglutide batches were recalled in July 2026?
In July 2026, Dr Reddy's and Torrent recalled some batches of generic semaglutide, and USV did too according to industry sources. These were selected batches, not whole brands.8,29
The table flags the three brands affected. Torrent said its tablets, its 8 mg pen and the Sembolic reusable pen were not part of the recall.29 Our post on what changed when semaglutide went generic has the full account.
If you have one of these brands, don't just stop. Find the batch number on the pack and ask the pharmacy or the company about it.29 Tell your doctor before any change of brand. Guide 6 also covers recalls.
How can you check a semaglutide pen is genuine?
Start with where it came from: a licensed pharmacy, against your prescription, with a bill. Then check the packaging, expiry date and that it was kept cold.35,37
In August 2025, CDSCO warned that Novo Nordisk stock was stolen in transit. It included Wegovy pens of batches RP5S232 (0.25 mg), RP5S233 (0.5 mg) and RP5S210 (1 mg).35 CDSCO told patients to buy "from authorized sources only and with proper invoice".35
The same alert said these medicines must be stored at 2–8°C, or their quality may be compromised.35 The WHO warns that fake semaglutide may contain another medicine, such as insulin.37 It advises checking packaging and expiry dates.37
Our full checklist is in Fake Ozempic and Mounjaro pens: how do you check yours in India?
- Stomach effects are common. In the Wegovy 2.4 mg trials, 44% felt sick (nausea), against 16% on a dummy injection.38
- Pancreatitis (an inflamed pancreas) has been seen with these medicines, including severe cases.38
- Gallbladder problems, such as gallstones.38
- Dehydration from vomiting or diarrhoea can hurt the kidneys.38
- Thyroid warning: ruled out by the US label for people with a personal or family history of MTC or MEN 2; tell your doctor if this applies. Not in pregnancy: stop at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy.38
Questions people ask
What is Poviztra?
Poviztra is Novo Nordisk's semaglutide, sold in India by Emcure as a second brand for weight management. Since 3 April 2026 it costs ₹3,999–8,999 a month.2
Is Yurpeak injection the same as semaglutide?
No. Yurpeak is tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly and sold by Cipla. Cipla said its price would be the same as Mounjaro's.7
Who makes Noveltreat?
Sun Pharma. It launched Noveltreat on 21 March 2026 for chronic weight management, in 5 strengths, at about ₹900–2,000 a week.1
Which semaglutide generic is the best or cheapest?
We don't rank brands. They differ in approved use, form and strength, and prices change after launch. A doctor chooses the brand and dose.8,17
Do generic semaglutide brands need a prescription?
Yes. The government said on 1 April 2026 that GLP-1 medicines cannot be bought over the counter.9
How we researched this
We opened every company release, news report, CDSCO file and pharmacy listing below on 5 October 2026. MRPs follow our order: maker first, then a named, dated news report. Next comes NPPA, then a printed MRP on 2 or more agreeing pharmacy listings. We found no NPPA price for semaglutide.
We could not confirm a launch price for Lupin, USV, Glenmark's pen or any generic tablet. We could not confirm that Natco's and Eris's pens launched in April. We left out pre-launch brand lists and aggregator sites.
The risk figures come from the US Wegovy label, not the Indian one. We could not find the Indian label online.
Before you move on
- Brands differ in form, strengths and approved use, so a diabetes-only brand is not a weight brand.
- Poviztra and Extensior are Novo-made; Yurpeak is tirzepatide.
- Compare pens with pens. Vials are priced per vial.
- Some generic batches were recalled in July 2026; check yours with the pharmacy.
