Is it safe to buy Mounjaro online in the UK?
It can be, if a registered UK pharmacy supplies Mounjaro (tirzepatide) on a prescription after a proper check. Since February 2025, pharmacy rules say an online prescriber must independently confirm your weight and height, for example by video or from your GP records. The MHRA says selling it through social media or beauty salons is illegal.
What checks should happen before an online pharmacy supplies Mounjaro?
Under General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) rules from February 2025, an online prescriber cannot rely on a questionnaire alone and must check your weight independently.
The GPhC regulates pharmacies in Great Britain. It now treats weight-loss medicines as high-risk.1 The prescriber must check your weight, height or BMI another way:2
- a video consultation or an in-person visit;
- your clinical records; or
- contacting your GP or another healthcare provider.
A phone call is not enough, and nor is a photo or video you send in, on its own.2 With your consent, the prescriber should tell your GP. If they can't check your details, they should send you to another provider.2
How can you check an online pharmacy is legitimate?
The MHRA says the only way to guarantee a genuine medicine is a legitimate pharmacy, online or not, with a prescription from a healthcare professional.
For a pharmacy in Great Britain, check the GPhC register. In Northern Ireland, check the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI).3 The MHRA lists these warning signs:3
- no consultation with a healthcare professional before the prescription;
- selling through social media or beauty salons, which is against the law;
- powder in vials that you mix before injecting, which is not authorised.

What has gone wrong with Mounjaro bought online?
Fakes have reached UK patients: in February 2026 the MHRA found falsified Mounjaro 15 mg pens supplied through one online pharmacy.
The fake pens were labelled batch D873576, a number that is genuine only on 7.5 mg pens. They were found because the dose knob came off during use.4 In 2025 the MHRA's criminal unit seized more than 5,000 illegally traded GLP-1 products.5
If you suspect a fake, or have a side effect, report it to the MHRA's Yellow Card scheme.3 How is in How do I report a side effect (Yellow Card)?
- Stomach effects are very common. In the weight trials on the UK Mounjaro label, 25 to 29 in 100 people on 5 mg to 15 mg felt sick (nausea), against 9 in 100 on a dummy injection.6
- Gallstones are common (1 in 10 to 1 in 100) in the weight trials, and a swollen pancreas (acute pancreatitis) is uncommon (1 in 100 to 1 in 1,000), on the UK Mounjaro label. The MHRA strengthened the pancreatitis warning in January 2026.6,7
- Pregnancy and the pill. The MHRA says to stop Mounjaro at least 1 month before trying for a baby. It can make the contraceptive pill less reliable for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose rise.3
- Operations. Tell your anaesthetist you take it, because it slows how fast your stomach empties.3
