How much is Mounjaro in the UK?

The short answer

The UK list price of a Mounjaro (tirzepatide) KwikPen is £133 to £330 before VAT, depending on strength. Each pen holds 4 weekly doses, and these prices date from 1 September 2025. On an NHS prescription you pay £9.90 an item in England, or nothing in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Private services set their own prices.

Before you go further
  • Mounjaro, like every GLP‑1 medicine, is a prescription-only medicine in the UK. A healthcare professional must assess you before it can be prescribed.1
  • Prices here are list prices from official sources, before VAT. We never quote a seller's price, and we don't name or rank sellers.
  • To spot fake pens and illegal sellers, see Is it safe to buy Mounjaro online in the UK? The risks are in Guide 5: Side effects and risks.
  • Nothing here promises any result, and nothing here is for sale.

What is the list price of each Mounjaro strength?

Lilly's list price, before VAT, rises with the strength, from £133 for a 2.5 mg pen to £330 for 12.5 and 15 mg.2

StrengthList price per pen (4 doses)Per weekly dose52 weeks (13 pens)
2.5 mg£133£33.25£1,729
5 mg£180£45£2,340
7.5 mg£255£63.75£3,315
10 mg£255£63.75£3,315
12.5 mg£330£82.50£4,290
15 mg£330£82.50£4,290

List prices excluding VAT, from NICE TA1026, in force since 1 September 2025, checked 12 Oct 2026.2,9 The last two columns are our arithmetic: pen ÷ 4, and pen × 13.

The NHS pays a lower price agreed with Lilly, and the details are confidential.2 The UK label starts at 2.5 mg for 4 weeks, then 5 mg. Rises after that are 2.5 mg at a time, at least 4 weeks apart, up to 15 mg.3 So 1 pen at 2.5 mg, then 12 at 5 mg, comes to £2,293 a year at list price, by our arithmetic.

What do you pay for Mounjaro on the NHS?

On an NHS prescription you pay the prescription charge, not the list price: £9.90 an item in England and nothing in the other 3 nations.

In England, a prepayment certificate (PPC) covers all your NHS prescriptions for £32.05 for 3 months or £114.50 for 12 months.4 If each 4-week pen is one item, a year is 13 items, or £128.70. That is our arithmetic.

People in England whose diabetes is treated with medicine, not diet alone, can get a medical exemption certificate for free prescriptions.5 Prescriptions are free in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.6,7,8 Who can get it is in Can I get Mounjaro on the NHS?

What about private prescriptions?

A private prescription is paid in full, and the government says private pricing "is a matter for Lilly and for private providers".9

That was the Department of Health and Social Care's comment on the September 2025 rise.9 Prices therefore vary between services. We don't list sellers' prices. The reasons for the rise are in Why did Mounjaro's price go up? The fuller cost picture is in How much Mounjaro and Wegovy cost in the UK.

In Northern Ireland, a leaflet notes that GPs cannot take over private prescribing on the Health Service.10 How to see a prescriber is in Guide 6.

RisksThe risks, in brief
  • Stomach effects are very common. In the weight trials on the UK Mounjaro label, 25 to 29 in 100 people on 5 mg to 15 mg felt sick (nausea), against 9 in 100 on a dummy injection.3
  • Gallstones are common (1 in 10 to 1 in 100) in the weight trials, and a swollen pancreas (acute pancreatitis) is uncommon (1 in 100 to 1 in 1,000), on the UK Mounjaro label. The MHRA strengthened the pancreatitis warning in January 2026.3,11
  • Pregnancy and the pill. The MHRA says to stop Mounjaro at least 1 month before trying for a baby. It can make the contraceptive pill less reliable for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose rise.1
  • Operations. Tell your anaesthetist you take it, because it slows how fast your stomach empties.1
