What is the MRP of each Wegovy pen?

Wegovy has 5 pen strengths in India, from ₹5,660 for 0.25 mg to ₹16,400 for 2.4 mg, each pen holding 4 weekly doses.^1,3

MRPs checked 5 Oct 2026. Weekly prices from a source were multiplied by 4. The other columns are our arithmetic, at 52 doses a year (about 4.3 a month). Pharmacies may sell below MRP.³

Your doctor sets the dose. The US label starts at 0.25 mg and steps up every 4 weeks. It ends at 2.4 mg, or at 1.7 mg.⁶ We found no public Indian label. Ozempic costs the same at 0.25 mg and 1 mg; Wegovy vs Ozempic compares them.^1,2

What does a year of Wegovy cost?

A first year on the US label's dose steps costs ₹1,83,210 in medicine at MRP, by our arithmetic, with doctor visits extra.^1,2,3,6

That is one pen at each of the first 4 steps, ₹35,610 for 16 weeks. Then come 36 weeks at 2.4 mg, at ₹4,100 a dose, which adds ₹1,47,600.^1,2,3,6 The median endocrinologist fee we found on Practo was ₹1,100 a visit, checked 5 Oct 2026.¹¹

Why did Wegovy's price come down?

Novo Nordisk cut Wegovy's MRP twice, in November 2025 and in a cut announced on 30 March 2026, as competition grew from Mounjaro and then generics.^4,1

In November 2025, the 2.4 mg pen fell from ₹24,389 to ₹16,400, Reuters reported. Wegovy, launched in India that June, was behind Lilly's Mounjaro in sales.⁴

Semaglutide's Indian patent expired on 20 March 2026, and generics launched the next day.^2,10 On 31 March, the 0.25 mg pen dropped from about ₹10,850 to ₹5,660. The average cut across strengths was 27%, but 2.4 mg stayed at ₹16,400.¹

What do Poviztra and generic semaglutide cost?

Poviztra, Novo Nordisk's second semaglutide brand, sold in India by Emcure, costs ₹3,999 to ₹8,999 for a 4‑dose pen from 3 April 2026.^5,12

Emcure calls each pen a month's pack. Indian Pharma Post gave each strength's price on 2 April. The pens cost ₹3,999 (0.25 mg), ₹4,999 (0.5 mg), ₹5,999 (1 mg), ₹7,999 (1.7 mg) and ₹8,999 (2.4 mg). Before, they cost ₹8,790 to ₹15,000.¹²

Generic semaglutide pens launched in March 2026 at ₹1,800 to ₹4,200 for 4 starting doses, by the makers' figures.^9,10 Pen strengths and approved uses differ by brand (Dr Reddy's launched its pen for type 2 diabetes), so switching is a doctor's decision.^9,10 What changed when semaglutide's patent expired covers the generics.
