How much is Wegovy in the UK?
The latest official UK list price we found for a Wegovy (semaglutide) pen of 4 weekly doses is £73.25 for 0.25 to 1 mg, £124.53 for 1.7 mg and £175.80 for 2.4 mg, before VAT. NICE published it in March 2023. On the NHS you pay £9.90 an item in England, or nothing elsewhere in the UK.

NICE's 2023 guidance gives Novo Nordisk's list price for each Wegovy FlexTouch pen, and the 3 lowest strengths cost the same.

What does a year of Wegovy cost at list price?
We count a year as 52 weekly doses, or 13 pens, so a year on 2.4 mg at list price is about £2,285 before VAT.
The UK label starts at 0.25 mg and raises the dose over 16 weeks to 2.4 mg.5 One pen each of the 4 starting strengths, then 9 pens of 2.4 mg, comes to £1,926 for the first year. That is our arithmetic. Private services set their own prices, which we don't list.

What do you pay for Wegovy on the NHS?
On an NHS prescription you pay the prescription charge, not the list price, but in England Wegovy for weight comes only through specialist services.
The charge is £9.90 an item in England, or £114.50 a year with a prepayment certificate.6 Prescriptions are free in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.7,8,9
NICE limits Wegovy for weight to specialist weight management services, for up to 2 years.10 Since May 2026 it can also be used for adults with heart disease and a BMI of 27 or more.11 The details are in Can my GP prescribe Wegovy? and Guide 6.
- Stomach effects are very common. Over 68 weeks, 44 in 100 people on Wegovy 2.4 mg felt sick (nausea), against 16 in 100 on a dummy injection, on the UK Wegovy label.5
- Gallstones are common (1 in 10 to 1 in 100) and a swollen pancreas (acute pancreatitis) is uncommon (1 in 100 to 1 in 1,000) on the UK Wegovy label. The MHRA strengthened the pancreatitis warning in January 2026.5,12
- Pregnancy. The MHRA says to stop semaglutide, the medicine in Wegovy, at least 2 months before trying for a baby.1
- Operations. Tell your anaesthetist you take it, because it slows how fast your stomach empties.1
